Through education, engagement, and support, we are committed to our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, aromantic, and ally students!

Gender-Inclusive Housing

Living in residence halls is an excellent way for students to meet and grow with others who are passionate about similar topics and interests. The UO’s Gender Equity Hall is for students who are committed to gender inclusion, and allows students to choose a roommate of any gender identity or biological sex. This hall also houses the academic residential community LGBTQIA+ Scholars. The students engage in queer scholarship with a faculty director and take small seminar courses that bring in LGBTQIA+ faculty to discuss their research. Both of these communities create inclusive, safe, co-curricular spaces for LGBTQIA+ UO students.

Counseling and Health Services

Our professional health and counseling staff members are dedicated to inclusive care that meets the unique needs of our LGBTQIA+ students. Individual and group therapy is available for students who identify as LGBTQIA+ or who may be questioning their gender and/or sexual identity. The counseling center’s Transgender Care Team offers support to students experiencing gender dysphoria and those seeking gender confirmation procedures.

The UO health center offers hormone replacement therapy prescriptions and treatment, and the university’s student health insurance plan covers hormone and surgical treatment like any other student medical need.

Student Involvement

Our student-driven outreach teams engage and empower LGBTQIA+ current and prospective students. These groups receive guidance from our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Education and Support Services in the Office of the Dean of Students. Whether involved in campus organizations or taking part in educational panels, our student volunteers connect with the greater campus community, sharing resources to support students’ well-being and academic success. In addition to programming for current Ducks, our team hosts visit days for GSAs (Gay/Straight or Gender and Sexuality Alliances), where prospective students connect with the UO and develop leadership skills, equipping them to create positive change in their own schools.

Educating Faculty and Staff

With the broader UO community in mind, the support services program offers Queer Ally Coalition training to faculty and staff, who can learn how to create services and classrooms that better engage, retain, and foster success among all UO students. These trainings encourage open dialogue to expand the understanding of the issues facing the LGBTQIA+ community.
